Our workshops bring professional teaching artists into the classroom, expanding your students' appreciation for music, drama, and theater through lessons that are aligned with your curriculum. The following programs are available for the 2008-2009 school year:

Snow Day NEW!
45 Minute Interactive WorkShop, Grades PreK-3
A very special Winter version of our workshop sessions! Join us on a journey through our magical winter forest. Discover enchanting creatures, exciting new lands, and a pair of snowflakes that are IDENTICAL! Using live performance, puppets, costumes and props, this interactive fun-filled Winter Adventure will be one to remember! Thematic Connections: Bloom's Taxonomy, Public Speaking, Geography, Music, Social Skills, Critical Thinking, Exploring Differences in Others, Science, Self-Esteem.

Stop Bullying Me! Conflict Management in your School
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 3-8
Using dramatic role play, students will explore types of bullying, conflict management, self-respect, and respect for others. This interactive workshop is designed to support a safe learning environment for all. Thematic Connections: Cross-curricular, Social Skills, Critical Thinking.

Once Upon A Time: An Introduction to Classic Fairy Tales
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 2-6
This fun and interactive workshop will bring new life to classic fairy tales. Students will gain a historical context, be introduced to primary thematic elements, and have the opportunity to bring some of their favorite fairy tales to life. The Wright Stuff: The Innovations of Orville and Wilbur Wright
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 3-8
First in flight, the Wright Brothers were inventive, creative, and determined. Using drama, movement and storytelling, students will learn about some of the most influential discoveries and inventions in history, focusing on Orville and Wilbur Wright. Thematic Connections: Cross-curricular, Biography, History, Science.

Mark Twain: An American Treasure
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 4-8
Samuel Clemens, more commonly known as Mark Twain, has captured imaginations for generations with his witty observations of American life. Experience the works, the life, and the times of the man often called the "father of American literature." Thematic Connections: Literature, Biography, History, Social Studies.

Manners Matter
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 2-6
Interactive dramatic play is used to illuminate manners, and common courtesy in our modern world. Music and theatre games give participants the opportunity to learn and practice proper etiquette for social situations, restaurants, and the theater. Thematic Connections: Cross-curricular, Social Skills, Music.

Self-Esteem Through Self-Expression
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades K-8
Using dramatic play to develop self-esteem, this workshop centers on theater games and word play, building concentration, physicality, vocal projection, articulation, diction, poise, coordination, and multi-tasking. Thematic Connections: Cross-curricular, Social Skills, Critical Thinking, Arts Integration.

Martin's Dream
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 4-12
Students go back in time to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, to hear the powerful "I Have a Dream" speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., followed by spirituals, blues, and gospel music from that powerful time period. Thematic Connections: History, Literature, Critical Thinking, Public Speaking, Music, Arts Integration.

Langston Hughes
Six-week Residency, Grades 7-12
Experience the Harlem Renaissance through the music, plays and writing of Langston Hughes. Students will discuss and write poetry about social issues that affect them today. Thematic Connections: Cross-curricular, History, Literature, Poetry, Critical Thinking, Social Skills, Research, Music, Arts Integration.

Harriet's Journey
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 2-6
Through a combination of music, drama, and movement, students learn about Harriet Tubman's early life as a young slave and act out her journey as one of the most famous conductors of the Underground Railroad. Freedom Songs
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 3-8
Experience the music that sustained, encouraged and empowered African-Americans to survive in a world that tried to keep them down. Join a teaching artist to explore the structure of work songs, spirituals, and freedom songs. Students will examine how the songs changed throughout time, and the times that changed around them. Thematic Connections: History, Multi-Cultural, Music, Arts Integration.

The Rough-Faced Girl Speaks
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades 2-8
Using the Native American Cinderella story, The Rough Faced Girl by Rafe Martin, students travel to an Algonquin village and experience Native American culture through story, song, and interactive play. Thematic Connections: Literature, Music, Arts Integration, Social Studies, Geography, Language Arts.

Art Alive
45 minute Interactive Workshop, Grades K-8
Presented in collaboration with the Cincinnati Art Museum, this workshop combines the stimulation of visual arts and the dynamics of theater exercises to prompt creativity, imagination, critical thinking, and enhancement of public speaking skills. Thematic Connections: Cross-Curricular, History, Critical Thinking, Language Arts, Visual Arts.
